1601 is a hometown for some, a workplace for others, a place of passage for many. The people who live here make 1601 – better known as Ruisbroek – the place it is. In Urdu they would call it ‘Ruisbroekstan’.

This project started in 2014 and – in its neverending quest – tries to find what it means to be in Ruisbroek? Some people are born here and still live here, while others already said goodbye or even passed away. They all opened a mental or physical door and by sharing their unique story they showed their pride and love for their home(town) – for some a choice, for others their only option.
